About: Suzanne HalversonSuzanne Halvorson has been a fabric designer and weaver since the early 1970s. She maintains a weaving studio where she designs and weaves fabrics for galleries, worship spaces, exhibitions, and arts fairs, as well as owning and operating Yarns Unlimited, with the help of a talented and dedicated staff of fiber artists. She teaches workshops across the U.S. in weaving with chenille, weaving for worship, space dyeing chenille, and double weave scarves, as well as teaching at Yarns Unlimited. Suzanne won first place in fashion accessories at the Midwest Weavers Conference in 1999, and Best of Show in "Objects of Ritual," a Lotus World Music and Arts Festival exhibition, in 1998 at the John Waldron Arts Center, Bloomington, Indiana. These are two of the more recent of numerous awards received in the past two decades of participation in arts fairs and exhibitions. "The Spirit of Place: Double Weave Color Study" in the March/April 2000 issue of Handwoven delves into Suzanne's twin loves of weaving and travel and how the use of color can evoke a sense of place. She also has a vestment and a parament featured in Weaving for Worship, published by Robin and Russ (1998). In addition to her accomplishments as artist and teacher, Suzanne spent ten years as gallery director at two prominant exhibition venues in Bloomington, the Campus Community Arts Center at Indiana University (1988-1992), and the John Waldron Arts Center (1992-1998). Suzanne received a BSFA from Valparaiso University in Art History and Textiles. She is a co-owner and charter member of Bloomington's By Hand Gallery, established in 1979, a member of the National Society of Arts and Letters, Bloomington Spinners and Weavers Guild, a board member of Friends of Art, Indiana University, and a charter board member of the Lotus World Music and Arts Festival. Since 1997 she has owned Yarns Unlimited, a fiberarts supply business established in 1979. yarnsunlimited@insightbb.com |
